October is Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Each year, organizations in Charlottesville and the University of Virginia host a number of events to raise awareness on sexual assault and domestic violence.Â

This poster lists the events during the 1995 Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Charlottesville. Â Some of the featured events included a screening of "True Stories: The Many Faces of Sexual Assault," which UVA students and the Sexual Assault Education Office wrote and produced, and a panel discussion called "The Law: Friend or Foe of Victims of Domestic Violence?"Â

This poster lists the events during the 1998 Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Charlottesville. Â Some of the featured events included a presentation led by members of the student group Sexual Assault Facts and Education about sexual violence in the media, a presentation from Coordinator of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Resources at the UC San Francisco Michael Scarce about male-on-male rape, and doctoral candidate Lisa Lindquist's research on "the sturcture of segregation, interracial sexual relations and historical interpretations of interracial rape from 1900-1960."

Â Some of the featured events included the tenth anniversary of Pi Lambda Phi's annual pole sit benefit for the Sexual Assault Resource Agency (SARA), in which they sat atop "a 15 foot pole for 24 hours a day for one week to promote awareness and prevention of seuxal assault in the Charlottesville community and the work of SARA, and a presentation by the University's Department of Psychology member Brian Malone entitled "Effects of Anti-Gay Hate Crimes on the Gay Community."

Â Some of the featured events included a three-part series with information regarding resources for students in abusive relationships, the "grey" area of sexual assault, and how women can support each other in prevention efforts.

This poster lists the events during the 2004 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month in Charlottesville. Â Some of the featured events included a presentation led by the all-male sexual violence prevention student group One in Four entitled "How to Help a Sexual Assault Survivor: What Men Can Do," a rock concert hosted at Tokyo Rose to benefit Shelter for Help in Emergency, and a presentation led by UVA medical student group Into Action regarding how medical professionals and students can help a survivor.
