Wrong(ed) man: Earl Washington awarded $2.25 million
In 1984, Earl Washington confessed to and was convicted of raping and stabbing Rebecca Williams in Culpeper. Washington was sentenced to a death penalty until 1993 when a primitive DNA test eliminated him as the killer. His sentence was then commuted to life in prison. In 2000, another DNA test identified Kenneth Tinsley as Williams' killer and Washington was awarded $2.25 million.
