University police last week received a complaint from a female University student who said she saw an adult male masturbating on a staircase outside the Monroe Hill Residential College, according to Resident Staff Co-Chairman George Little.
Little said all upperclass residents and resident staff have been notified.
“We've informed residents of the need to watch out for their safety and security,” he said. He advised female students living in Monroe Hill to make sure they draw their curtains at night.
“Given recent events it's very important that (they) be aware of their own safety,” he added.
Little said the student described the offender as a white male of medium build in his late or early 30s, with a slouching posture and short reddish wavy hair and a moustache.
At the time of the incident, the man wore tight blue boxer shorts, a tight navy blue T-shirt, athletic socks and tennis shoes.
Last Thursday, around 6 p.m., in an unrelated incident involving a University student, a man shouting obscenities and brandishing a golf club chased first-year College student Brenda Queen down Emmet Street as far as Memorial Gymnasium.
Charlottesville Police Sgt. Gary Pleasant. said officer Mike Farrugio reported to the scene, but the unidentified man, who is believed to be a local living in the woods, was not found.
Queen the man as a black male in his approximately 6’1”, 170 pounds, wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and blue shoes.
