Inside the story: UVA activists, author of Rolling Stone article speak
This article on p. 27 of a full edition of Cville Weekly dedicated to the 11/19 Rolling Stone article interviews UVA anti-rape activists and Rolling Stone journalist Sabrina Rubin Erdeley. UVA anti-rape activists interviewed for the article include Emily Renda, former co-chair of the Sexual Assault Leadership Council and 2014 graduate who was hired to work as a project coordinator on sexual assault prevention at UVA; Sara Surface, a student leader with UVA's Sexual Violence Prevention Coalition; Alex Pinkleton, a survivor and member of anti-rape advocacy group One Less; and Brian Head, president of UVA anti-rape peer education group One in Four. This article notes that all four student leaders were mentioned in Erdeley's Rolling Stone article, but that their activism work was not. They are also concerned that "the story failed to explain the complexities of the University's sexual assault policies, and unnecessarily vilified administrators, including Associate Dean Nicole Eramo, whom Renda and Surface praised as a strong defender of victims."Subject | |
