Voting Scheduled for Judiciary, Female Status: Referendum Continues until 60% Cast Ballots
News article on student referendum that includes resolutions to clarify the status of women students at the University. These resolutions are: 1) "A resolution altering the definition of a student to allow women enrolled in the University to vote in elections. Not passed by Student Council. Placed on ballot by a petition initiated by the School of Education," and 2) "A resolution proposed by Student Councilman David Montague, and passed by Council, prohibiting women from being elected to Student Council." The article recounts that when Jo Ann Baum, president of the Women's Student Association, appeared before Student Council to urge that they support the "women-to-vote amendment," Student Council subsequently passed an amendment that "Council shall rise and stand when a woman brings business before it." They did not, however, pass the woman-to-vote amendment.Source |
