Unsubstantiated Charges of Racism Encourage Backlash

This letter to the editor responds to a previous article detailing a violation of black students' rights at a party. The writer asserts that civil rights violations are not necessarily racially motivated and illustrates this claim by describing how his own grandfather, a white man, was shot to death by police. While the writer concedes that racism exists, he maintains that claims of racism must be thoroughly substantiated.
