Silent Voices

This opinion article considers the disparity between the "one in four" statistic and the paucity of cases in which women come forward and report being assaulted. The writer recalls the openness of discussion about sexual assault that she witnessed at a Take Back the Night march, and speculates that women fail to report rape due to denial, shame, and fear. However, she asserts that reporting is important, and cites various resources available to survivors at UVA.
