2014/11/24 - The University cannot objectively investigate sexual assault
A letter to the Cavalier Daily from a UVA alumnus of the class of 1977, who is now at College Park, Maryland. In the wake of Rolling Stone, the writer argues that mandatory reporting should be implemented, whereby any University employee should be required to report instances of sexual assault to the police. Further, he argues that UVA has an institutional interest in combating sexual assault, that rape is a violation of societal norms, and that police will respect a survivor's wishes not to press charges. The writer also calls for a review of mental health care given to survivors at UVA.Subject | |
