MEMORANDUM
21 August 1981 TO: Members of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Task Force for the Prevention of Sexual Assault FROM: Barbara Burger, Mary Alice Gunter, Lane Kneedler Co-Chairpersons CATFPSA On August 20th, University of Virginia President, Frank Hereford, made final your appointment to the Chartottesvi1le-Albemarle Task Force for the Prevention of Sexual Assault. Although the first phase of this project is completed, we have a great deal of work ahead of us. The Charlottesville City Council and the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors passed a joint resolution appointing the Task Force, which was then endorsed by President Hereford. The specific goals of the Task Force are to: 1) Increase community awareness of the problem of sexual assault; 2 ) Recommend: a) effective coordination of resources among interested and affected agencies and groups, and b) effective programs and policies for sexual assault prevention. In addition to approving our goals, the resolution appointed fifty-two Task Force members (see attached list), appointed co-chairs, and made provisions for staff assistance from the city, county, and University for this project. The first meeting of the Task Force will be held on Monday, September 10th. at 4 p.m., Room 7 of the Albemarle County Office Building. This meeting will be the first of three general meetings of the Task Force. These general meetings are designed to familiarize members with the issues involved in sexual assault. After these three meetings, the Task Force will divide into four committees: public education, community prevention, judicial, and law enforcement. In addition to the presentation, a brief outline of the committees will occur at these first meetings. Hopefully, during the course of these meetings you will get an idea of which of the four committees you are interested in. We apologize to those individuals who might miss part of the meeting due to work commitments. Unfortunately, a group of this size is hard to schedule. Once the committees start to meet, the times might be more flexible. If you have any questions, please call Barbara Burger (979-7467).
